New CD releases

Here is the upcoming and recent release information for August (in no particular order).

London/Decca has rereleased two more of their Phase 4 albums on CD in England (dates for US and world wide releases are not known). The first one is Great Film Classics with Citizen Kane/Magnificent Ambersons, The Devil and Daniel Webster, Jane Eyre and The Snows of Kilimanjaro from the 1971 album Music from Great Film Classics, and Mysterious Island and Jason and the Argonauts from The Mysterious Film World of Bernard Herrmann. The second CD is Great British Film Music with Herrmann conducting music by other composers. Herrmann is conducting Louis Kaufman and the Columbia Symphony Orchestra in a recording of Robert Russell Bennett’s Violin Concerto concerto released on CD by Cambria as Pan Americana.

Four Faces of Jazz has been released by Mobile Fidelity on CD (Ultradisc II, gold). This is a 1971 recording of Herrmann conducting music by Weill, Gershwin, Stravinsky and Milhaud.

Koch/Laser X (Label X?) is releasing a CD with music from Battle of Neretva, Sisters and The Night Digger titled Bernard Herrmann at the movies. This is a compilation of the original soundtrack recordings {(source: cdchoice)}.

Silva has repackaged some of their Herrmann recordings on a compilation CD titled Herrmann Hitchcock – a Partnership in Terror. This CD includes the Herrmann music from the History of Hitchcock CDs and the ‘Hitchcock music’ from the Torn Curtain – The Classic Film Music of Bernard Herrmann CD.
