THE PRIVATE HERRMANN
As assignments in Hollywood grew rare, Bernard Herrmann decided to move to the country and city of his choice. As he went to England quite often before for concert performances and to meet other composers like Ralph Vaughan Williams and Laurie Johnson. His favourite park in London was Regent's Park, so he choose his homes in that area.
THE PUBLIC HERRMANN
After Herrmann "lost" the CBS Symphony Orchestra, he tried to get another job as conductor of a major orchestra. He was invited to conduct in Britain on several occasions in the 50ies and 60ies.
THE RECORDING HERRMANN
London is perhaps the leading recording venue followed by Los Angeles. As Herrmann's assignments from Hollywood became rarer he started recording his film scores and concert music in various venues in Greater London. The ideal recording location with the right acoustics was a deciding factor for him.
