Bernard Herrmann BBC interview 1968
Introduction
New York born Bernard Herrmann had a long relationship with Britain, especially London, which he made his second home in 1961 and primary residence in 1964 after he seperated from his second wife Lucy Anderson. In 1967 he married his third wife Norma Shepherd in London, a journalist and producer at the BBC.
As far back as the 1940s Herrmann gave several concerts in Britain and made broadcasts for the BBC and was a regular interview guest for broadcaster John Amis.
He recorded all of his major concert works and many suites from his most successful film scores for major labels like Decca, Lyrita and Unicorn in London. Virtually all commercial recordings during his lifetime were done in the British capital and he also continued championing composers like Gustav Holst, Charles Ives and Joachim Raff when he committed their works to vinyl.
