This picture archive, a “virtual walking tour,” is meant to compliment and supplement portions of Steven C. Smith’s 1991 biography of Bernard Herrmann. It is surprising to find that, with few exceptions, nearly all the buildings where Herrmann and his family lived or where he worked are still standing. The occupants have changed, and the corporations may have moved, but the buildings remain. By observing biographical details such as where Herrmann lived, worked, and where he is buried, one can learn and derive information about Herrmann’s life.
A number of documents have been included to supplement the pictures. In time, it is hope that more pictures and documents will be added, affording a more detailed picture of Bernard Herrmann’s life.
